There’s Just Not Enough Time In The Day

And according to scientist Richard Gross at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory we may have just lost 1.26 milliseconds of an Earth’s day due to the earthquake that just occurred in Chile.  Gross claims that due to a shift in the Earth’s axis we may have lost some milliseconds to our days.

I find this highly ironic considering lately everyone and anyone you talk to you claims: “there just not enough time in the day!” Me included!

    The World Spared a Tsunami

This is definitely a perfect example of yin yang.  After the earthquake in Chile there were so many countries put on alert for a potential tsunami and I have to say thank you God for not letting that happen. We got a much needed break and even though our hearts go out to those in Chile, we are equally thinking of those that were spared in other countries. I honestly hope that Mother Nature will now tame down a bit and let us start enjoying the rest of the year. We have had a fair share of natural disasters and I hope that with these misses that we will be spared from more. At least for now, I feel I can breathe a sigh of relief that I can balance this yin with a yang.

    8.8-magnitude earthquake hits central Chile

I think I have lost count now. I can’t comprehend that we just had another massive earthquake in the world. 2010 surely appears to be a year that is going to shake us, literally.

An 8.8-magnitude earthquake has struck Chile early Saturday. Tsuanmi warnings have now followed for quite a wide area: South America, Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand, Japan, the Philippines, Russia and many Pacific islands. It just goes to show how interconnected we are and how we really have to watch out one another.

A noose in the library at University of California, San Diego?

This is happening in California in the 21st century? This is totally insane! I can’t believe that some student would hang up a noose in the library at UC San Diego. Being an ex Californian I have to say I had higher expectations, but I also have to admit I’m not completely shocked. I was made fun of during the 1991 Gulf War because I was Indian. In the state that is looked upon as the “melting pot” of the US, the reality remains that not all is well. The noose is really just something that symbolizes what goes on with many immigrant/colored people in California and the US daily.

It’s pretty ironic that we have our first African American/colored president in office yet still we have such episodes occur in our society. I do understand that we will always have a few idiots in society. But with technology and so much visibility to issues around us, one has to believe that these acts should have been something from a distant past. What is harder to comprehend is that this took place in a University, in an arena of education. I think as a society we tend to forgive those who are not privy to information and are not educated, but what does one say to the student who admitted to these acts. This is a unfortunate episode that really sets us back in terms of the dream that people like Martin Luther King had.

    Strike Three!

Yet again more snow! Living in New Jersey for the past seven years this is by far the most snow I have EVER seen and honestly don’t want anymore! This is the third storm to hit the East coast this month! We didn’t get as much snow as we did in the previous one but we did get another snow day and another few more inches on what’s already on the ground. We were just beginning to see the grass again and now we have yet again a white blanket laying on the floor.  With this storm though the winds were definitely very powerful as you could hear them howling outside the window.

In this particular storm, I think it was New York that really got slammed. In fact, this storm has earned the title Snowicane because of its wind gusts. I think we all are now, however, chanting the same chant: We are ready for spring NOW!
